1Summary
- Browsing history, bookmarks, downloaded-file records and app settings are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded to us or to any server we control.
- We run no analytics, no crash reporting and no telemetry of our own. The only data that leaves your device because of this app is the advertising data described in section 4, sent by the Google Mobile Ads SDK to Google and its ad partners.
- The app is free to use and is funded by Google AdMob. AdMob collects data under its own policy (see section 4).
- Device-to-device transfer and cloud backup are disabled, so none of the locally stored data leaves the device through Android’s backup system.
2Data stored locally on your device
| Data | Why it is stored | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Browsing history (page title, URL, visit timestamp) | So the History screen can show and reopen pages | App-private storage |
| Bookmarks (title, URL) | So you can save pages | App-private storage |
| Downloaded-file records (name, path, size, MIME type) | So the Downloads screen can list and open files | App-private storage |
| App settings (theme, language, ad-block toggle, search engine, user-agent mode) | To restore your preferences | App-private storage (DataStore) |
You can erase any of this at any time: the History screen has a clear action, the Bookmarks screen allows deleting individual entries, and uninstalling the app removes everything.
3Permissions
| Permission | Why it is needed | When it is requested |
|---|---|---|
Internet (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) |
Loading web pages and ad requests | Install-time |
Camera (CAMERA) |
The QR-code scanner, and only for web pages that explicitly ask for video capture | At runtime, the first time you tap the scanner |
Post notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) |
Progress and completion notices for audio extraction | At runtime, Android 13+ |
The app does not request contacts, location, call log, phone state, SMS, file-read access to other apps’ data, or a list of installed apps.
4Advertising (Google AdMob)
Desho Browser displays ads served by Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK running inside the app may collect or receive:
- The Android Advertising ID (a resettable device identifier) — used for ad frequency capping, fraud prevention and, where consented, personalisation.
- The IP address of your device. It is a necessary part of every ad request sent over the internet, exactly as it is when you load any web page. The app holds no location permission and never reads or sends your location.
- Information about the ads shown and whether you interacted with them (impressions, clicks, conversions).
- Device characteristics: model, OS version, screen size, carrier, browser type.
- App package name, run frequency and app-interaction data, used for ad targeting, frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement.
- Crash and performance information about the ad code itself, which the SDK reports to Google so broken ad units can be fixed.
This data is processed by Google and third-party ad partners under Google’s own privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
Consent for European Economic Area and UK users is requested through Google’s User Messaging Platform when the app first starts. Personalised ads are only requested once that consent has been granted. If you decline, ads are still shown but are non-personalised.
You can control advertising personalisation at any time:
- Android Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID removes it entirely (the ID then reads as zeros and non-personalised ads are served).
- Android Settings → Google → Ads → Reset advertising ID gives you a new one.
- Google Ads Settings: myadcenter.google.com
5Web browsing
When you visit a page, the request goes directly from your device to that site, the same as any other browser. We operate no proxy, no middleware and no “cloud boost” server. Sites and their third-party ad technology may collect data from you according to their own policies. The built-in ad blocker can be enabled in Settings to reduce this.
Cookies created while browsing are stored in the WebView’s own cookie jar inside app-private storage. They are cleared when you clear browsing data or when incognito mode is used.
6Children
Desho Browser is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country) and is intended for a general audience. Ad requests from this app are not marked child-directed; they are served to a general-audience inventory.
7Data deletion
Because browsing data never leaves your device, deleting it is a local action:
- History screen → trash icon → clears all history entries.
- Bookmarks screen → delete icon on any entry.
- Downloads screen → delete icon on any entry.
- Settings → clears stored preferences.
- Uninstall the app, or Settings → Apps → Desho Browser → Storage → Clear data, removes everything the app holds.
For data held by Google on the advertising side, use myaccount.google.com/privacy and the AdMob opt-out links in section 4.
8Policy changes
If this policy changes materially, the “Last updated” date above changes and the new version is published with the next app release.
